Personal Meeting The meeting with artist Raya Bruckenthal will revolve around the visitor. Visitors are requested to bring art works that they made and have note and will not be exhibited, whether by personal choice or by external influence. Raya does not seek to resolve the distress, but to spend time with the visitor and observe it together. The decision to throw a piece of work in the trash is usually personal, hidden, and contrived as opposed to successes, which are clear, spoken, and exposed. But most of what we create is unsuccessful, and Bruckenthal is interested in day-to-day failures. At the end of the meeting, the visitor will not leave with a solution, but with a new articulation and understanding of the failure. Raya Bruckenthal, born in 1975 in Tel Aviv, now lives in Jerusalem and works in the Artists’ Studios in Teddy. She is an interdisciplinary artist who graduated with honors from the Department of Art at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (2000) and is currently a graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Department at Tel Aviv University. Her work invites an alternative reading of concepts in the Orthodox Jewish tradition, which she merges with cinematic, pop, and trash images. She uses their influential power to produce "controlled blasphemy" allowing her to develop an open discourse on the nature of beliefs and to address issues that are both general and Jewish social taboos. |

מפגש אישי המפגש עם האמנית רעיה ברוקנטל יסוב סביב המבקר. המבקרים/ות מתבקשים/ות להביא איתם עבודות אמנות מעשה ידיהם/ן שלא הוצגו ושלא יוצגו, בין אם מבחירה אישית או מהחלטה חיצונית. רעיה אינה מבקשת לפתור את המצוקה, אלא לשהות בה ביחד עם המבקר/ת, ולהתבונן בה ביחד. ההחלטה לזרוק יצירה לפח היא לרוב אישית, מוסתרת, מוצנעת לעומת ההצלחות שהן ברורות, מדוברות, חשופות. אך רוב מה שאנחנו יוצרים נכשל, וברוקנטל מעוניינת דווקא בכשלונות היום יומיות. בסוף הפגישה המבקר/ת לא יצאו עם פתרון, אלא עם ניסוח והבנה מחודשת של הכישלון.1 רעיה ברוקנטל, ילידת 1975, תל אביב, כיום חיה בירושלים ויוצרת בסדנאות האמנים בטדי. אמנית בינתחומית בוגרת בהצטיינות של המחלקה לאמנות באקדמיה לאמנות ולעיצוב בצלאל ירושלים (2000) ותלמידה לתואר שני בחוג הבינתחומי באוניברסיטת תל אביב.1 יצירתה מזמנת קריאה אלטרנטיבית למושגים מהמסורת היהודית האורתודוכסית אותם היא ממזגת בדימויי פופ, קולנוע וטראש. היא משתמשת בכוחם המשפיע כדי לייצר באמצעותם "חילול גבולות מבוקר" המאפשר לפתח שיח פתוח על טיבן של אמונות ולעסוק בנושאים שהם טאבו חברתי כללי ויהודי כאחד.1 |
