In her lecture, Shir Meller-Yamaguchi, will discuss what happens when the curator is focused on the viewer's experience. She will explore how an exhibition can create space for inspiration and a widening of the consciousness, beyond the cultural and aesthetic familiar limits. Meller-Yamaguchi will talk about her curatorial path at the Wilfrid Israel Museum for Asian Art and Studies. She will share about exhibitions that examine the crossroad between Asian Culture and contemporary Israeli art.
Shir Meller-Yamaguchi is the Chief Curator of the Wilfrid Israel Museum for Asian Art and Studies. She holds a BFA from Haifa University (1992), Certificate in Curatorial Studies from the Tel Aviv Museum (1995), and a Masters in Museology from Leicester University in Britain (2004). Meller-Yamaguchi is a curatorial studies lecturer at Tel Aviv University and Kibbutzim College. Additionally, she works as an independent curator and curated interactive group exhibitions at the Israel Museum (I to Eye, 2018), Islamic Museum of Art (Time, 2020), and the Art Biennial at Nakanojo Japan (Not Black Nor White, 2017). In her past, she was the Director of Education at the Janco Dada Museum where she curated the Dadalab (1992-2005) and the Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art in Haifa (1995-2000). |
