The three monotheistic religions link knowledge with shame, ever since the parents of mankind ate from the Tree of Knowledge, recognized that they were naked, and covered themselves up. Since then decent people have to cover their bodies.
But with the Renaissance, the Greek ideas of linking virtue to a (well-trained) naked body was born again and Nude painting became a predominant discipline in western academies, standing for enlightenment. Female artists however were denied access to Nude classes and women only served as models. They finally were allowed in the academies around the time they got the right to vote. Three women artists, from different religious and cultural backgrounds - Christian, Muslim, and Jewish, contend with the issue of the female nude in their body of work. How does this influence the power relations in their societies? In what way does it affect their social and artistic status? Does this action change the attitude towards the body altogether? These questions will be confronted in the panel discussion, which will be held within the exhibition presenting the artists’ works. |

מאז שאדם וחוה אכלו מעץ הדעת, קושרות שלוש הדתות המונותאיסטיות בין עירום ובושה. מאז, מכסים אנשים מהוגנים את גופם.1
הגוף העירום זכה לעדנה מחודשת בימי הרנסנס, בזכות רעיונות יווניים הקושרים אליו מעלות רבות, וציורי עירום הפכו למרכזיים באקדמיות במערב ולסמל לנאורות. אולם, המודליסטיות היו הנשים היחידות שהורשו להשתתף בשיעורי ציור העירום, ואילו על אמניות נאסרה הכניסה. דבר זה השתנה רק לאחרונה, סביב השנים בהן ניתנו לנשים זכויות נוספות, ביניהן זכות ההצבעה.1 שלוש אמניות מרקע דתי ותרבותי שונה – נוצריה, מוסלמית ויהודיה, נדרשות לסוגיית העירום הנשי בגוף עבודתן. כיצד משפיעה העבודה עם עירום על יחסי הכח בחברה שממנה הן באות? באיזו דרך היא משפיעה על מעמדן החברתי והאמנותי? האם עשייה זו משנה את היחס לגוף באופן כללי?1 שאלות אלו יעמדו במרכז הפאנל שיערך בחלל התערוכה המציגה את עבודתיהן של האמניות.1 |
